Three Case of Spinal Epidural Abecess

Abstract
One acute and two subacute cases of spinal epidural abscess are reported All three cases had furuncles or abscess preceded the onset of epidural abscess.
The common symptoms of epidural abscess were fever, headache, pain in the back, weakness :of lower extremities and finally a complete paraplegia.
The sites of epidural abscess were between 8th & 10th thoracic vertebra, between first & third lumbar vertebra and between third & fourth thoracic vertebra.
Two cases were operated in 6 days and 17 days each after the onset of epidural abscess in the Paralegic dondition and the former almost recovered all function and latter remained moderate paraparesis after operation.
One case was operated in 10 days after the onset of epidural abscess but died in 2 months after, the onset of disease due to the generalized infection of staphylococcus.
Staphylococcus were found in the epidural abscess of these three cases.
The early diagnosis, prompt operative drainage and administration of adequate antibiotics prior to the development .of irreversible spinal cord damage are quite essential to lowering the mortality and to get good results
